Introducing Myself

Hi.

Instead of writing a whole blog post describing myself, I decided to give you a list about things that I like. This way, you can form your own ideas about the type of person I am, rather than wait to convinced– or not (looking at you, conspiracy folks)– that I am who I tell you I am.

Things I like:

  • I like being cheerful.
  • I like traveling to places (the process of getting to a destination, which I find to be thrilling).
  • I like when people play with my hair.
  • I like it when my nails are done (mind you, I didn’t say “getting them done” because this requires some planning on my part).
  • I like holding warm drinks.
  • I like ordering coffee (I also like making it).
  • I like the smell of chocolate (hence, walking into a chocolate shop gives me the tingles).
  • I like when people say I smell nice.
  • I like meeting new people.
  • I like feeling childish.
  • I like collecting rocks or shells at the beach.
  • I like writing poems (also reading them to people).
  • I like singing (I am not good at all, though. And no karaoke for me).
  • I like cutting and gluing (actual paper).
  • I like success.
  • I like touch.
  • I like eating tasty, healthy foods.
  • I like having music playing in the background to whatever I do.
  • I like sharing.
  • I like discussions (especially about the human experience and psyche).
  • I like creating games involving asking and answering lots of questions.
  • I like the smell of popcorn that hits you when you enter a movie theater.
  • I like holding a glass of wine (and drinking it, too).
  • I like being honest.
  • I like getting items crossed off of my mental checklist.
  • I like sushi.
  • I like wearing comfortable pants.
  • I like wearing the same cologne (so that I have “a smell”).
  • I like game shows.
  • I like the smell of books.
  • I like little jewelry stands.
  • I like being liked.

I know this is a long list but trust me when I say that I could go on and on and very easily, too. Maybe I should have also mentioned that I like talking about myself. But I think most people do so this hardly makes me egotistical… I hope. After all, we see everything from our perspective so the world– my world– as I see it does revolve around me (as your world as you see it does around you!).

I am currently reading Gretchen Rubin’s “The Happiness Project”, in which she reminds that we can choose what we do, but not what we LIKE to do. There are things that we simply wish we liked because we think we SHOULD like them. For instance, my friend Amelia likes hiking. I like this about her and I wish I enjoyed hiking as much as she does. However, if I am completely honest with myself, I don’t like hiking very much. I only like it when its over and I am on top of that mountain, staring at a gorgeous view. This part, unfortunately, lasts much shorter than the actual hike so my motivation seems to be minimal towards hiking.

This list, aside from helping me introduce myself, will hopefully also serve as a reminder to be honest with myself about things that I truly enjoy in life. I don’t want to keep chasing other people’s dreams and want to be good at their hobbies. This is a waste of time and the result won’t even make me happy. I want to push myself when it comes to my own goals and desires and grow and appreciate my strive while enjoying the process.
